I found an article some months ago with an interview of a big shot of Google who said they don't consider SWFObject to be safe and thus they don't particularly recommend this though it's unclear why. I guess they will have to revise their policy, if any, about it.

It would also be a problem if ExternalInterface were not to be supported because SWFAddress is entirely based on that. It dynamically updates the address bar whenever the state of the RIA changes. It's only that way that visitors can deep-link a concrete section or element of the RIA.

As you said, we'll be waiting for more consistent technical details. The news is quite catchy but we have yet to see tangible results.

The whole "not executing some types of javascript" is quite daunting. Although they haven't said otherwise, I can't imagine that SWFObject is going to prevent .swfs from being indexed. Otherwise, the only flash content that will be hit will be by kids posting silly movies on mySpace!

My hope is that their mention to javascript is related to ExternalInterface calls, which are certainly more complicated an interaction than just embedding the .swf in the page.

While the initial announcements were useful, I will definitely be interested in more technical documentation to follow...
